Getting better sleep

Sleep is the greatest performance drug, ever, physically and cognitively. I can’t get enough.

Here’s the goal:

  • 8-9 hours of high quality sleep each night
  • Having sleep serve life rather than dedicating time/energy into optimzing sleep

My current schedule:

  • Working at Neuralink during the day, need 12-13 hrs of engineering time
  • Ideally 1 hr of workout time. That is 14 hrs, conservatively. I have around 10 hours for the rest of the day. Plenty to fit in 8-9 hrs of sleep.

Lets do the math. Assume it takes me 30 min to fall asleep (conservative). We have more than enough time. So what is the current issue?

  • lowkey I just use electrtonics before bed. bad. if i have electronics at home you bet im wasiting time on it instead of sleeping
  • i work too late then wake up at the same time (sometimes i go home at 1am from neuralink and some ppl are able to just wake up at 10am isntead and fix it but i can’t i wake up at 7am anyways)

so knowing these 2 limitations there’s reall yonly one plya here:

  • leave electronics at office and go home sharp at 9pm.

That leaves me what, like, 30min uber + 30 min shower/wind down / housekeeping very reasonably in bed by 10pm.

10pm - 10:30pm is for falling asleep. 10:30pm - 7am is 8.5 hrs which is within our 8-9 range right in the middle. Knowing me I don’t have issues waking up whatsoever.

So why tf can we not do this, lol. Excuses.

Let’s keep this as a ledger so I can improve my sleep schedule.

The key habits I’m gonna be forcing are:

  1. at 9pm: leave all electronics at the office (and pre-schedule uber for the morning)
  2. probably ideally no energy drinks after my sleep gets fixed
  3. go on my daily 3km run

that’s basically it tbh.
